01 / The Discipline of Better

Leadership is the relentless pursuit of better.

Leadership carries the responsibility to create the conditions in which people and organizations can thrive.

The Discipline of Better is a way of leading: seeing an organization as it is, recognizing what more may be possible, and making deliberate choices about what must evolve.

That discipline matters as technology reshapes work, economic pressure tests institutions, and leaders are asked to create performance under conditions their organizations were not designed to meet.

My writing examines those choices from an operator’s perspective. The ideas are grounded in nearly two decades of leading enterprise people and workforce strategy across growth, transformation, acquisition, integration, and reinvention.

Possibility is everywhere. Better is the discipline of pursuing it.

02 / Ideas & Writing

Questions that matter to leaders now.

Ideas about the conditions that shape what organizations and people are capable of becoming.

03 / A Working Model

Enterprise Performance Architecture.

Philosophy establishes the responsibility. Architecture gives leaders a way to examine how an organization converts strategy and intent into performance.

The operating discipline

Four dimensions shape how the organization works.

  1. 01Decisions

How decisions are made, who has authority to make them, and how competing priorities are resolved.

    Examine
Which decisions create the greatest drag, and what would allow them to move with greater clarity?
  2. 02Ownership

How accountability is assigned and matched with the authority and support needed to deliver.

    Examine
Where has responsibility become diffuse, duplicated, or disconnected from decision authority?
  3. 03Structure

How roles, resources, and relationships are organized to accomplish enterprise priorities.

    Examine
Which boundaries enable focus, and which create avoidable coordination or delay?
  4. 04Execution

How priorities become coordinated action, measurable results, and learning that improves performance.

    Examine
What allows priorities to hold across functions, teams, and time?
